The judging is complete and the finalists for the Best Use of Steel Technology category at the OFFSITE AWARDS have been announced. With an incredible mix of projects in the running – here is a glimpse of what's in with a chance of picking up a trophy at the 10th anniversary celebrations being held at the Coventry Buildings Society Arena following OFFSITE EXPO on 17 September 2024.
Abbey Quay – British Offsite
Abbey Quay is a prestigious new development located along the River Roding, offering luxurious one, two, and three-bedroom apartments in a vibrant waterfront urban village within the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. The project includes over 1,000 new homes and features UNisystemSFS, one of the most advanced panelised systems available in the market.
Innovative Swimming Pool – Evolution Home and Leisure
Using light steel frame and modern methods of construction, Evolution Home and Leisure, in partnership with Core Architects and Starline Construction, have developed an innovative swimming pool using the Matrix LFS panel system. This pioneering project was initiated by Core Architects, who introduced this distinctive structural concept to their clients. Together, they laid the foundation for a ground-breaking application of offsite technology by employing the patented Matrix system, which features light steel frame throughout the entire structure, eliminating cavities and cold bridging.
The Chocolate Factory – Frameclad
As a BOPAS Accredited light steel specialist, Frameclad boasts an advanced offsite manufacturing infrastructure powered by tailored digital technology. However, their true strength lies in the technical expertise of their team. With DfMA at the core of their operations, one project that exemplifies the success of this approach is The Chocolate Factory. Frameclad was tasked with delivering the secondary structural light steel framework, overseeing everything from design and engineering to fabrication and onsite delivery.
Ennerdale Avenue – Intrastack
Ennerdale Avenue is a housing development in the Manchester area dedicated to offering affordable homes. The project's housing provider, Southway Housing, selected Intrastack's low-rise housing solution through the contractor R&M Property. This light steel frame structure was implemented in eight low-rise houses on Ennerdale Avenue and was chosen for the project due to its safety during construction, durability, and its long-lasting qualities.
Heaps Mill, Park Lane, Liverpool – Metek
This ten-storey project consists of nine levels of light steel frame construction on top of a ground-floor podium by others, covering a GIFA of 4,530 sqm to create a 104-apartment residential building. Located on the site of the Grade 2 Listed Heaps Mill on Liverpool's waterfront, this new residential development will provide luxury accommodation and five-star onsite amenities, delivered by Metek's client, Legacie. The compact footprint presented a design challenge for the in-house engineering team, particularly in terms of bracing and stability.
